NYK Sponsors Two Para Sports Events for Employees
June 8, 2018
Beam Rifle Workshop
NYK recently held two para sports events for employees, a Beam Rifle Workshop sponsored by Aki Taguchi, an NYK employee and Paralympian in the sport of shooting, and a Paralympic Talk Event, sponsored by Yasushi Yamawaki, an NYK advisor, governing board member of the International Paralympic Committee, and president of the Japanese Paralympic Committee.
Background
As a good corporate citizen, NYK promotes employee participation in a variety of volunteer events. In the area of para sports, NYK realizes that learning about and watching sports are forms of social contribution, and the company has thus been offering such opportunities to employees. In fact, NYK held an event to watch the Wimbledon wheelchair tennis championships on television in 2015, a boccia workshop by the Japan Boccia Association in 2016, and a workshop by the Japan Blind Soccer Association.

About the Events
- The Beam Rifle Workshop was held on March 15. Supported by the Tokyo Rifle Association, NYK replicated a room like one found at actual shooting events, and 25 NYK Group employees gave the sport a try. Ms. Taguchi taught the participants how to handle the beam rifles, as well as how para sports classify competitors according to the degree of disability to maintain fairness.
- The Paralympic Talk Event was held on April 25. Mr. Yamawaki spoke to about 40 NYK Group employees about his experience attending the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympics. He showed photos and videos, and talked about the rules and attractive points of the games.
Future
NYK will continue these kinds of events to help employees raise awareness of para sports, and to realize an inclusive society where everyone can live comfortably regardless of disability.
