NYK Recognized as Parent-friendly Company for a Fourth Consecutive Term

April 18, 2018

NYK has been recognized as a parent-friendly company by Japan’s Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare for a fourth consecutive term, previously receiving recognitions in 2007, 2011, and 2015, in accordance with Japan’s Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-generation Children.*

NYK was recognized for achieving the targets of its fourth action plan (below) covering the two-year span of April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2017.

1.Increase the ratio of men taking child care leave (Target of 13% or more)
(Measure) Create an environment that makes it easier for male employees to take child care leave by introducing intra-company promotion activities that inform employees of the leave and encourage them to take it.

2.Further improvement of work-life balance
(Measure) Establish and implement measures to improve work-life balance, and keep the percent of employees working more than 60 hours a week to under 5 percent.

NYK understands that enriching employees’ daily lives is essential for good health and spirit, and will thus continue to support a work-life balance through positive child-care measures based on the company’s newly established fifth action plan.

* Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-generation Children
A law obliging business owners to make it possible for their employees to balance work and child-raising against societal challenges, as evidenced by the declining birthrate. The law requires that business owners cooperate to improve conditions so that the next generation can be born and raised in a healthy environment. The law was recently amended to extend the period of application to March 31, 2025.
