June 17, 2017
On June 17, 2017, about 01:30 Japan Standard Time, ACX Crystal, a containership chartered by NYK collided with US Navy destroyer USS Fitzgerald at 20km off the coast of Shimoda, Shizuoka prefecture in Japan.
There were no injuries on board ACX Crystal, or oil spill from the vessel, it is understood that, however, a couple of sailors of the USS Fitzgerald are missing according to the Japan Coast Guard. Our thoughts and deep concerns go out to all those directly affected.
NYK has established a Crisis-Management Headquarters, and fully cooperated with an investigation by the Japan Coast Guard together with the Shipowner.
