Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. (YL) jointly exhibited at Global Space Technology Convention & Exhibition (GSTCE) 2025, an exhibition for space and satellite operators. The NYK Group is the first logistics company to participate since the event began in 2008. GSTCE is an international exhibition showcasing space industry professionals, companies, and cutting-edge technologies worldwide. The event took place from February 26 – 27 and was attended by visitors from 45 countries and regions around the world.

Under the NYK Group’s theme of "Space × Shipping and Logistics," YL's logistics services for the aerospace industry and NYK's business concept of combining ships and space were explained to space industry experts, researchers, companies, and policymakers from around the world.

In 2023, NYK entered the space-related business and is developing a platform for launching and recovering rockets at sea, as well as promoting the use of satellite data.

1. Launching rockets at sea allows them to lift off from a position close to the equator, enabling efficient launches that make use of the earth's rotation. At-sea launches also ensure a safe distance from land and support flexible launch planning.

2. We are working to reduce the cost of space development by building a system to recover a rocket's lower stage once it has separated after launch. Joint research with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is ongoing to bring new value to the space industry by utilizing the mobility of ships at sea.

3. The NYK Group operates more than 800 vessels and is exploring the potential for using satellite data. Through these efforts, we aim to improve operational efficiency and be more environmentally friendly.
