Takuya Soga, President of NYK, participated as a member in the WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development) Council Meeting held in New York, USA, from September 22 to 23, 2024.

This meeting coincided with Climate Week* and focused on critical topics related to climate change and sustainability. It provided a platform for discussing concrete actions to address the climate crisis and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable business practices.

It was an excellent opportunity to directly communicate our assertion to the leaders of some of the world’s foremost companies: “Without decarbonizing logistics, achieving carbon neutrality across all industries is impossible.”

During the meeting, discussions centered on enhancing cross-industry collaboration among companies to achieve common goals, accelerating the introduction of transformative business models, and developing innovative approaches to manage climate impacts throughout supply chains and business operations.

This participation represents a valuable opportunity for our company to take significant steps toward a sustainable future. By demonstrating global leadership in climate change initiatives, we contribute to solving critical social challenges while enhancing our long-term growth and competitiveness.

Furthermore, we reaffirmed the importance of contributing to global value creation as a company that supports critical global infrastructure by showing specific initiatives to achieve the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
