Exchanges opinions on efforts to “promote gender equality among executives” and other topics
NYK Executive Officer Yuko Tsutsui participated in a panel discussion at the regional flagship event “Forward Faster Now | Asia & Oceania”* held by the United Nations Global Compact (UN Global Compact)** in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) over two days from August 5 to 6.
The panel discussion, titled “Breaking Barriers: Achieving Gender Equality through Women’s Representation in Senior Management” (“Breaking Barriers”), aimed to raise awareness of gender equality in senior management and deepen understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by women in the Asia-Oceania region. Tsutsui was invited as one of the female leaders in the Asia-Oceania region in recognition of her extensive experience in the field of ESG and sustainability.
Tsutsui shared NYK's commitment to gender equality and the policies and practices that the company has developed to promote gender equality at the leadership level. She also mentioned the importance of strengthening partnerships between government, business, and civil society, which was one of the session’s objectives, as well as the development of an environment for the promotion of gender equality in the public and private sectors.
This year, the UN Global Compact has been holding regional Forward Faster Now summits in various regions of the world where high-level executives from the political and business world are invited to exchange views and opinions with the aim of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for corporations by 2030. The summit provides an opportunity for high-level executives from politics and business to exchange views and opinions.
As a member company that promotes the implementation of the 10 principles in the four areas (human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption) set forth by the United Nations Global Compact and the penetration of the SDGs into management, we will continue to contribute toward the achievement of the SDGs.
