Rhea Leader, a pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) owned and operated by NYK, rescued 37 people in distress off the island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea at around 14:26 (local time) on January 20.
The vessel was sailing westward in the Mediterranean Sea toward the Strait of Gibraltar when the ship received a request from Greek authorities to rescue those in distress. Rhea Leader immediately sailed to the scene and saved 37 people. All persons were in good health and disembarked safely at 19:40 on the same day at the port of Paleochora, Crete.
