The NYK Group would like to offer its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the undersea volcanic eruption off the coast of Tonga that occurred on January 15.

NYK and NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. (NBP), an NYK group company, will be transporting up to 2.5 million yen in daily necessities to the Kingdom of Tonga (Tonga) free of charge using NBP-operated vessels as reconstruction assistance for the affected areas. To begin, 5.4 tons of drinking water was shipped on March 1.

Since 2014, NBP has operated the South Pacific Link (SPL), a multi-purpose semi-container ship service, linking the South Pacific island region, including Tonga, with the Far East and the rest of the world.

NBP has a particularly close relationship with Tonga and has cooperated in the past with the transport of children's sandals and rugby balls.

We sincerely hope for the earliest possible restoration of the affected areas.
