NYK Holds Annual Fleet Safety Management Meeting with Shipowners and Ship-Management Companies

On June 30, NYK held its annual fleet safety management meeting with domestic and overseas shipowners and ship-management companies. This year’s meeting, which was conducted online, shared safety activities that had been carried out by each company to foster and improve safety awareness.

This fleet safety management meeting is part of NYK’s Remember Naka-no-Se safety campaign. Based on the lessons learned from the Diamond Grace oil spill in Tokyo Bay in July 1997, this campaign is held every year with the purpose of reconfirming with shipowners, management companies, and other partners the importance of safe operation.

The meeting was conducted in two parts, one in Japanese and one in English on the same day. More than 260 people from 82 companies in Japan and overseas participated.

This year, importance was given to the safety operation initiatives* stressed in the NYK Group ESG Story and emphasis was placed on fostering and improving safety awareness thorough accident-prevention measures and thus enhancing seafarer safety and environmental protection.

Affirming NYK’s ESG initiatives and various other themes, agenda items included preventive measures against COVID-19 infection, crew change issues, the latest vaccination information, NAV9000,** and the deliberation status of the 76th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).

On February 3, NYK released the NYK Group ESG Story, which promotes efforts to create new value by contributing to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and solving social issues through the group’s business activities. The fleet safety management meeting, which emphasizes safety awareness with partner companies and aims for continuous safe operation, is part of this. To strongly promote ESG management, the NYK Group will continue to stress safety to realize more prosperous lives for seafarers and encourage new value creation as a sustainable solution provider.
