NYK has been honored with the Grand Prize at the IT Japan Award 2019 organized by Nikkei Computer magazine (Nikkei Business Publications Inc.) in recognition of efforts to use IoT as a preventive measure against vessel operation failure.
This is the 13th year for the IT Japan Award to be given in recognition of superior use of IT, and NYK was selected for the Grand Prize from among five companies that had been featured in articles published in Nikkei Computer between May 10, 2018, and April 18, 2019, and on the online technology news site Nikkei xTECH.
On June 21, 2018, Nikkei Computer and Nikkei xTECH reported on NYK’s advanced use of IoT, including particularly the IoT equipment that the company has installed on about 200 vessels to monitor conditions of the engine and other machinery, unify data names and units that differ by vessel, and gather data for land offices to monitor so that NYK can detect possible engine failure at an early stage.
On July 10, 2019, Hidetoshi Maruyama, NYK senior managing corporate officer, will speak at the IT Management Forum to be sponsored by Nikkei Business Publications Inc. and receive the award.
In accordance with its medium-term management plan “Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green,” the NYK Group will continue to proactively promote digitalization in the pursuit of safe operation and new value.
