NYK Named "Nadeshiko Brand"Company for Second Consecutive Year

April 6, 2015

he Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) have jointly named NYK a “Nadeshiko Brand” company for a second consecutive year.
The Nadeshiko Brand comprises companies that encourage women to play active roles in the workplace, including the development of environments in which women are able to further their careers. These companies are also considered to be those with growth potential since they have the management ability to utilize various human resources as well as flexibility in assessments of their environments.
Nadeshiko Brand companies are selected from those listed on the first section of the TSE on an industry basis, and are introduced as attractive brands for investors who attach high value to mid- to long-term improvement in corporate value.

NYK has been promoting an implementation of systems and a creation of work environments where the company’s employees, regardless of gender, can actively participate. This includes integration of the company’s personnel management system in 2001, which annulled occupational classification as “management track” and “general clerical work,” and the company’s establishment of an in-house childcare facility in 2002 as the first such case in central Tokyo to support employees’ work-life balance. Moreover, female managers account for approximately 15% of total managers in NYK. In fiscal 2013, NYK establish the Staff Development and Employment Initiating Chamber within the Human Resources Group with the aim of encouraging women to develop their careers, and also introduced a system to balance work and family so that an employee can take a maximum three-year leave if his or her spouse is transferred to another city or country. These efforts were highly evaluated by TSE and METI and led to NYK being granted the Nadeshiko Brand designation.

NYK will continue to further develop frameworks in Japan and overseas to enable all personnel to fully exhibit their potential in the workplace.
