NYK Maritime Museum Welcomes 400,000th Visitor
February 12, 2015
The NYK Maritime Museum, located in Yokohama, Japan, welcomed its 400,000th visitor on January 31 2015. The lucky guest was a member of the Okubo family, which resides in Yohohama, and in recognition of the visit, the family was presented with a set of original goods from the museum, a description of the museum’s current exhibition, and a set of NYK Hikawamaru’s renowned dry curry.
To commemorate this milestone, small gifts will be given to 40 visitors each day for 40 days between January 31 and March 22 2015.
On receiving the recognition, the elder Okubo commented, “On the way to the museum, I told my family that I was feeling a bit nostalgic today because my first customer was the NYK Yokohama branch when I had first started working for a systems development business 40 years earlier.” The historic building housing the NYK Maritime Museum used to be the premises of NYK’s Yokohama branch. The NYK Maritime Museum opened in December 1993 and underwent a renewal and name change in 2003.
