On September 5, a naming ceremony for a new LNG vessel ordered by Trans Pacific Shipping 1 Ltd.,* a joint venture company comprising Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. (head office: Nagoya; president: Akihisa Mizuno), and the Mitsubishi Corporation (MC; head office: Tokyo; president: Ken Kobayashi), was held at the Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. At the ceremony, Toshio Mita, chairman of Chubu Electric Power, named the ship Seishu Maru, and his wife cut the ceremonial rope holding the vessel in place. NYK chairman Koji Miyahara was also in attendance.
This vessel’s name is derived from the old name for the north and central parts of Mie prefecture, where Chubu Electric Power’s LNG terminals are located.
After delivery, Seishu Maru will be shared by NYK, MC, and Chubu Electric Power, and used to transport LNG for Australia and North America projects.
In accordance with its medium-term management plan “More Than Shipping 2018,” NYK will continue its efforts to provide stable and economical LNG transport services.
