New NYK Employees Volunteer in Area Devastated byGreat East Japan Earthquake

August 4, 2014

New employees who joined NYK in April 2014 have taken part in volunteer activities in Otsuchi town in Iwate prefecture as part of the initial training being provided to them by the company.

Thirty-four new employees each volunteered five days of their time participating in a site visit, activities with local NPOs, and a workshop. During the workshop, each employee was asked to assume the role of a decision-maker in the town and provide advice on a challenge the town was facing. This activity for new employees allowed them to broaden their views and deeply consider the need for a company to make a contribution to society while providing needed assistance to many in the Otsuchi community.

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake three years ago, NYK has established a program through which company directors, employees, and even former employees have been able to assist in the recovery and revitalization of the affected area.

NYK will continue its efforts to support those in need to fulfill the group’s commitment to remaining a socially responsible corporation.
