NYK Trading Installs Second Solar Energy Facility in Hokkaido
April 8, 2014
On April 2, the NYK Trading Corporation (head office: Tokyo; president: Hidenori Hono), an NYK Group company, connected the Hokkaido city of Ishikari’s power grid to a new solar energy facility in the city.
The 2-megawatt facility can generate 2.2 million kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual amount used by about 700 households. All electricity generated will be sold to Hokkaido Electric Power Co. Inc.
This facility was designed and constructed by the Kita Koudensha Corporation (head office: Sapporo; president: Akira Nakano), which also designed and constructed the facility NYK Trading installed in the Hokkaido town of Yakumo in June 2013.
Both facilities have been developed with consideration of various weather affects like heavy snow. The two facilities are capable of generating total 4 megawatts of power for Hokkaido.
In fiscal 2014, NYK Trading will begin construction of the another solar energy facility, capable of generating 1.5 megawatts of power, in the Hokkaido city of Tomakomai, thus increasing power generation to 5.5 megawatts by solar facilities installed in Hokkaido by the company.
NYK Trading has been active in the renewable-energy and eco-technology business fields for many years and will work to install small wind-powered electricity units, as well as solar-power systems, in Hokkaido in the future. The NYK Group will continue to encourage the use of environmentally conscious renewable energy.
