NYK Group Staff Members Volunteer at Farm for the Disabled
May 25, 2016
On April 23, NYK Group staff members and their families volunteered to assist with farming activities at Tera Farm, an ancillary institution of Hinode Taiyo-no-ie, which has a facility in Hinode-cho, Nishitama-gun, Tokyo that provides intellectual stimulation to those with mental disabilities. This was the fourth time since 2014 that an NYK volunteer activity has been held at Tera Farm.
This particular event was conducted in collaboration with the Taiyo Welfare Association, a social welfare corporation founded in 1987 to give disabled the opportunity of public participation and employment through the use of a farm and an old samurai residence. The association works to foster an understanding of those with disabilities and the principle of normalization, i.e., making available to all people with disabilities patterns of life and conditions of everyday living that are as close as possible to the regular circumstances and ways of society.
A total of 32 participants — including NYK Group company presidents, staff members, and family members — gathered on a sunny morning and engaged in farm work that suited each person’s age and physical strength, such as leveling the ground, sowing seeds, harvesting, and producing fertilizer. After the activity, the NYK participants were thanked by the facility staff and could feel a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
The NYK Group promotes employee involvement in volunteer activities and promises to work positively as a good corporate citizen on activities that contribute to our society.
